Artist's Comments

Okay, not to toot my own horn, but I am pretty proud of this one. Of course I (and maybe you too) can see dozens and dozens of flaws; so many flaws that I almost stopped coloring this and threw it away. Lucky for you (I hope) I didn't throw it away. This took forever to color. Hours and hours.

The Skull Kid has one of the coolest storylines in Zelda history to me. I am super big on characters who are 'evil' but are so because of separation and personal mistakes. These are the MOST interesting characters. Skull Kid isn't evil. He is an outsider who is stuck in a world that doesn't accept him. So he is forced out of the society he was born into. He befriends a pair of mischevious fairies and stumbles across a powerful mask: Majora's Mask. Now, in his misguided uncertainty, he is overwhelmed with the power of Majora's Mask. He is no longer the lost and unloved Skull Kid. He has a new identity: the manifestation of Majora's Mask and takes on a new role in which he is revered and respected... infamously because his emotional reaction is to solve the problem of being on the outside of society all his life... by destroying it. He is only able to allow his conscious to perform so vicious an attack because of his unguided journey through life and because he can hide behind the power of Majora's Mask without shaming his own, unrespected, unempowered identity. The character is far deeper than my chinsy synopsis affords, but that's at least a small taste of how much I love this character and a testament to the storytelling power of the gaming gurus at Nintendo. Good stuff. Expect to see some more (original) Skull Kid drawings from me.

TIME: 2-3 hours to sketch. 4-5 hours to color (I know, I'm slow)
MEDIA: Sharpie ultra-fine point, Pilot V5, Sharpie fine point, and Crayola colored pencils on 8.5 x 11 paper.

I used a reference to draw this. I still haven't figured out the artists name, but if you know PLEASE tell me. Here is a link to some of his work and the reference pic I used [link]

Thanks. My scanner always fades the image and screws up the red colors, but thanks your compliment!
